It sounds too good to be true. Why would manufacturers subsidize the cost of their medications?
Pharmaceutical manufacturers may subsidize the cost of their medications for many different reasons, such as to help improve patient access to medications that may be outside of their financial means, as part of a broader patient support program, or to help remain competitive in the market.
How will innoviCares make a difference for me?
InnoviCares is designed to improve patient choice by helping cover the cost of original brand medications. Your medical needs are unique. You and your doctor may prefer certain medications, and your innoviCares savings card gives you the flexibility to stay on your chosen original brand medication without having to switch to a generic prescription.

Who is eligible for an innoviCares card?
The innoviCares platform is available to all Canadians. Simply sign up for your card, once registered, you can download a card, add it to your Apple Wallet, or request a physical innoviCares card to be mailed to you.
Now that I have my innoviCares card, what do I do next?
Once you have your innoviCares card, you can use it immediately to start saving on covered original brand medications. First, make sure your medication is covered by innoviCares, then simply visit your local pharmacy and present your innoviCares card and start saving on out-of-pocket costs for your medication.
Are there additional costs to use my innoviCares card?
InnoviCares does not charge fees of any kind to patients who use the innoviCares card. However, after using your innoviCares card, there may be remaining costs that innoviCares does not fully cover, a co-pay from another insurance plan, or dispensing fee that’s added by your pharmacy.

I need very specific medications that are more expensive. Can innoviCares help control those costs?
InnoviCares provides the freedom of choice to remain on a medication that you trust or are more familiar with by assisting with the cost of qualified medications. To see if your medication is covered by innoviCares, visit our What’s Covered page.
I have an existing insurance plan that covers some medications, can I still use innoviCares?
Yes! You can still use innoviCares if you have pre-existing insurance. If you have insurance, innoviCares will coordinate with your existing insurance plan(s) to help provide the lowest cost for any qualifying medication.
What amount is covered for my medications?
InnoviCares covers a portion of the markup, drug acquisition costs, and dispensing fees up to the difference in cost between qualified original brand and generic medications. The amount covered by innoviCares can differ for specific medications, or may change based on the province you’re filling your prescription in.
What percentage of medication costs are covered by innoviCares?
Coverage amounts vary by product and province. When using innoviCares with a qualifying medication, you'll be covered for up to the difference in cost between the original brand and generic medication at your local pharmacy. You'll see your savings on your pharmacy receipt.

How does innoviCares work with my patients’ existing medication plans?
InnoviCares works like a co-pay card to help reduce the cost of qualifying original brand medications. Patients with private or public insurance can use their private insurance card first, and then use their innoviCares savings card to cover a portion of the remaining costs, up to the difference in price between the original brand and generic medication.
Which of my patients would benefit most from innoviCares?
The innoviCares platform is available across Canada. It’s especially helpful for patients who are prescribed an original brand medication that may not want to change medications, those who are living on a budget, or both. Some original brand medications cost thousands of dollars, and the innoviCares savings card may help lower those costs so that you can work with your patient to choose the medications that best support their unique medical needs.
What should I tell my patients who have children or elderly parents about how to register their whole family for innoviCares?
Each innoviCares savings card is unique to an individual patient. If they'd like to register their children or elderly parents on the innoviCares platform, they'll need to individually register each member of their family. Only one card may be used for each individual patient.
